Grandma Jim is a grandfather that makes hand-made double fleece knot blankets. (More on the name later.)

Grandma Jim got started making fleece blankets as a hobby in the fall of 2008 and as a way to make gifts for friends and family.  I started before Christmas in 2008 to make blankets for my two grandsons, my daughter, my son and my mother as personal presents for the holidays.

The first blanket I made was a Chicago Cubs blanket for my son, a die hard Cubbie fan.  (Don't know where I went wrong there!).  I was inspired by a sister-in-law who had made several blankets for her family a couple years ago.  This first blanket turned out very nice with the help of my wife.

I then started with material from the Disney movie "Cars" for the two boys.  This being my first effort, the blankets ended up a bit large for two small children, but they did turn out nice and get used quite a bit by my daughter's family.  I then made a Christmas blanket for my daughter using a Santa Claus panel and a blanket using a Thomas Kinkade print for my mother.  These all turned out quite nice.

I actually took them to work to show a couple people I worked with and they all asked me if I could make some for them. And I was off and running making blankets and selling them to co-workers.

As I was working on several blankets my son, always the smart-aleck, said my grandsons were very lucky to have three grandmas: Grandma Jane, Grandma Mary, and Grandma Jim. I related the story at work and a co-worker surprised me with three button pins the next day.  One is shown below:

The other two button pins said, "Get Fleeced By... Grandma Jim"  and "I Got Fleeced By . . . Grandma Jim" and as a result of these pins, Blankets By Grandma Jim was born.  The logo has morphed over the last year or so and Grandma Jim now has beard stubble.  The new logo is show below:

All of the blankets I make are assembled in a smoke-free, pet-free environment and made from 100% polyester fleece.  Each blanket is hand cut and hand tied by Grandma Jim (not Grandma Mary).  Following completion each blanket is washed using Woolite in cold water and then dried on low heat and then stored until sold.
